The Deacon
$240
This Collins double-bit came out of an old logging camp liquidation — stamped with a lot number and beat to hell. Both bits were chipped and one had a small crack that had to be ground out. After profiling both bevels back to geometry, each edge was taken through 220, 400, and 800 grit for a working-sharp finish — not mirror polished, because this axe is built for the woods, not the mantle. The 36-inch ash handle was hand-shaped to a classic double-bit profile, fitted with a wedge and pinned for security. Blackened on the head with forge wax for corrosion protection.
