The Widow Maker
$380
Six pounds of heat-treated steel on a 36-inch hickory handle. The Widow Maker is not a dainty piece. This 1960s industrial splitting maul head came in coated with grease and surface rust — probably from a railroad or logging operation. The head was degreased, derusted, and left raw with a light wax coat because this thing is going to get hit hard and often. The hickory handle is heavy-duty, straight-grain, fitted with two wedges and cross-pinned. Buy this if you have a lot of wood to split and a score to settle with it.
