1944 Sager Chemical Axe – Custom Osage Adirondack Double Bit
1940s–1960s
This 1944 Sager Chemical double-bit axe was fitted to a modified Whiskey River Osage Orange 19C handle and converted into an Adirondack style build. The handle required a small laminated Osage repair at the shoulder before being hand-shaped, sanded to 400 grit, darkened with iron acetate, and finished with Wise Owl Black Hemp Seed Wax. The head was cleaned, blued, sharpened to a razor edge, and finished with polished bits. A Padauk wedge completes the hang and gives the finished axe a sharp contrast against the darkened Osage.
