This Plumb Rockaway combines an old American axe head with a new hickory handle\. It has a 4\.026 pound Plumb Rockaway head, a 36C hickory handle from Whiskey River Trading, and a teak wood wedge\. I aged the handle with iron acetate to darken the wood and bring out the grain\. Then I used black Wise Owl Hemp Seed Oil to add more color and depth\. The palm swell was hand\-painted and wiped down to give it a worn look\. I also added a light splatter of faded black paint to make it look like the handle had seen years of use\. The handle is brand new, but the finished axe looks like it could be 100 years old\. The process took a lot of time, but it was worth it\. I finished the handle with Buffalo Trace\-infused boiled linseed oil, giving the axe an old, well\-used look while keeping it ready for work\.
